Congenital Hypertrophy of the Retinal Pigment Epithelium (CHRPE)
A thickening of the retinal pigment epithelium present at birth. The thickening appears on funduscopic examination as anoval, black, clearly demarcated lesion within which there are atrophic areas surrounded by a halo that has no pigment.
